A few weeks ago Kristin, I and our friend Lauren H.  went out for some drink and talk.   Lauren H. told us about this place she went to for yoga classes in Royal Oak that offered one free week to see if you like it.  Sounded pretty good enough for us to investigate and found a schedule.

So this week, I’ve been doing yoga.  To see if I like it?

(I thought about writing about each day’s experience but thought more and decided an all-encompassing post would suffice)

Monday:  Went in for a night class called “sanga vinyasa”.  I believe this is their warmest class, they pump it up to 90+ degrees.  From their pamphlet:

…is designed to build great internal heat in order to purify our systems.

So, you know, I’ve only done yoga maybe once before.  That time it was in my family room for maybe 10 minutes and I think I laughed more than anything. This time around, for an hour, was substantially more intense.  I honestly don’t think I’ve ever sweat that much.  At the end while we all were laying flat with our eyes closed, a guy came out of nowhere singing and playing guitar.  My first instinct was to laugh but I held it in.

In the end, I liked it.  It felt good to sweat so much.  Plus a lot of the moves were more “work out” kinda things than pointing to the sky and stretch kinda moves.  Could’ve done with a little less new-ageness.

Tuesday:  Sore from Monday, we went and did a morning thing called “fusion” which I guess is a slower easier version of what Monday night’s was.  I don’t think they turn up the heat on this one but I still broke a pretty mean sweat.  Mind you, I don’t normally get that drenched from a work out.  I may have broken some kind of sweat barrier recently from running? If there is such a thing.  Anyway, the teacher was nice and driving home I decided it was a good idea and a nice start to the day.

Wednesday: Skipped it.  Too sore.

Thursday: Going in for “slow flow”.  Self explanatory?  We’ll see.  I’m thinking Friday might potentially get skipped as well.

So far my verdict is.  I like it.  Though not enough to pay for.  Maybe I’ll remember some of these moves to bust out some mornings when I’m feeling energetic.
