Movies de Mayo

I went out to the Main in Royal Oak last night to see a screening of Draggers and Rip Spots, a film by my friend (Katie)Barkel.  I didn’t realize it was encompassed within the Mitten Movie Project.  Needless to say I was glad, its always nice to see what Detroit creatives are up to.  There were about 10 or so shorts and trailers, some animated, some great and not so great.  They do these screenings the first Tuesday of the month just in case you want to go.  I must say Katie’s film was the coolest, great music, locations and wonderfully shot in B&W.

I recently read an interview with Stanley Kubrick about how he started making movies because when he went to the theater he would think to himself that he could make films way better than what was showing at the time.  I had a similar thought at the screening, not to put down other people’s art or anything, but I feel like I could create something good enough to share, I just gotta step it up and start creating.  We’ll see.

Did you enjoy Cinco de Mayo?  I know I did.  I celebrated with a delish burrito and listened to Latino music all day.

love,
