B’Earth Day

Hooray for Hollywood, today’s my birthday.  And Earth Day.

It’s probably the biggest cliche, but this past year went by with the quickness.  All at once a lot happened and nothing happened at all.  I like to think of birthdays as a 2nd new year, a chance to change or start something new, or whatever.  This year is different because I’m now out of school and almost all of my good friends from school don’t live close to me.  I’ve had a lot of time to think and have been trying to get my adult life in order.  This year is probably the first where I’m somewhat hesitant to embrace my new age.  If I were still at school, I’d be surrounded by youth and good times so much I wouldn’t really notice, but here at home there’s almost a constant reminder that time is slipping away and I need to cherish what I have and what I can get.

My birthday always feels pretty good.  It’s in the Spring, the sun is usually out, good times.  I kind of feel weird about celebrating my entry into the world though.  Like, ok ok, thanks for the reminder I’m here, its cool, now lets get back to playing Wii or something.  When I was younger, like every kid, birthdays couldn’t come sooner, it was amazing.  That feeling somehow has faded a bit, maybe kids are just greedy for cake and super soaker 5000’s.

I have high hopes for this “new year”.  I’m confident about meeting some of the more loftier goals I set for myself, another soon to be great Summer is just around the corner and the future, although murky and undetermined, shouldn’t be too bad.

For today, I think I’ll enjoy some simple pleasures.  Go for a run, eat some good food, watch intense playoff action, maybe plant a tree, things that remind me how much I like to be alive.

Also.  I forgot to choose a Person of the Week, so since its my birthday, I choose me.  I’ll spare you the brief biographical information this time.

Happy Earth Day to you!

love,
-p.

Happy birthday little brother. Welcome to your quarter-life crisis. It hit me pretty hard (the head shaving, tattoo, grad school), but I got over it and I’m confident you will too! In any case, enjoy your birthday like only you can.
