hamlet 2
This is a little late, but the other day I saw Hamlet 2. First off, I only really caught bits of the preview, but it was a lot different than what I expected.
Steve Coogan, also in Tropic Thunder right now, plays a high school drama teacher in Tuscon trying to save his program. Catherine Keener plays his wife, but I felt like her character was too much like other characters she’s played in the past.. maybe she’s being type-casted as a condescending tease.
The movie has an odd pacing that left me too much time to think about what was going on. About around when Amy Poehler comes in though, the heart of the story unfolds and you’ll be glued to the screen. I’ve seen people say it’s an “irreverent” comedy. I guess. I just think its something a little askew and overall pleasantly entertaining.
I came in thinking it might be just OK, but the fact that it has great music and odes to the Karate Kid topped it off and left me thinking I should see it again.

A lovely time.
I saw Animation Show 4 with Andy Al Sara and Emer. I liked it, it was quite dark I’d say. One of my favorite shorts was by PES. None were quite as funny as Animation Show 1′s Hertzfeldt’s stuff, but pretty much all were both interesting and cool to watch.
Afterward we went to Motor City Brewery. We got some pizzas. I may be goin out on a limb here, but it might’ve been the best pizza ever. Better than Pizza Buona in Rome, thats right-I said it.

The Promotion
Last night I was able to join a few friends to see an advance screening of The Promotion, starring Sean William Scott, John C. Reilly and Jenna Fischer. You all know I love Jenna Fischer from The Office and pretty much anything John C. Reilly has been in, like these. Can’t say I was much of a fan of Sean William Scott, all those American Pie movies never really hit a chord. In this movie though, he plays a nice fella just tryin to get promoted so he and his lady can have a better life. Reilly moves in from Canada and becomes the only obstacle.
Side note: The place I saw this movie serves alcohol. The price of a drink cost about the same as a movie ticket, so I thought-might as well get one cause the movie is free, right? Right. So I got some booze and popcorn and had a lovely time.
I liked the movie, and I’m pretty sure I’ll like it more with a 2nd viewing. It had that kind of dry humor that gets funnier the more you remember it. It was a nice and simple comedy, pretty creative I thought with some stuff, looked like it was probably a lot of fun to shoot. I give it a B+.
